How will you make an impact in this role?

American Express is looking for a Database Engineer with a strong background and practical experience on architecting, designing, and developing enterprise-grade database solutions. This role will have the opportunity to implement database infrastructure automation across the full spectrum of the SME Sales lifecycle at American Express, thereby driving agility, improved quality, and efficiencies in database development and Sales controls across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

- Work closely with Governance and Analytics teams to define, analyze, and capture business needs

- Create a vision & long-term strategy for servicing Data Platforms & Capabilities in collaboration with key stakeholders to enable enterprise objectives

- Lead, engage and inspire a team of highly skilled data engineers and managers

- Documents data requirements and maintains data models to ensure seamless integration into existing data architectures

- Create innovative new data attributes to enhance performance of marketing/sales models

- Evaluate next generation feature engineering to drive incremental discrimination and accuracy for models

- Explore new data sources to develop new attributes to enhance intelligence that can be leveraged in targeting models

- Closely Collaborate with GCS strategy teams for building, deploying and feedback for models

- Enforce Enterprise Data Risk Management policies and procedures in alignment with industry regulations and global standards.

- Partner with teams across Legal, Compliance, Privacy, Information Technology, Information Security, Enterprise Data Governance, Operations and business units to implement effective data risk mitigation strategies.

- Robust due diligence and compliance with financial industry regulations.

- Follows data placement procedures to identify best database product for the given requirements and re-use of existing databases when possible

- Builds and enhances database design and infrastructure required to support the Business portfolio

- Creating world class analytical solutions and Developing cutting edge, future-proof Identity & Personalization capabilities powered by Data, Dynamic Intelligence

- Communicates and works collaboratively with business and product teams to support DB changes and implementation

- Work on assigned database features for ongoing sprints and manage database requirements based on industry trends, new technologies, known defects, and issues

- Partner with delivery architects and engineers to design optimal data tier solutions to meet platform objectives and goals

- Identify opportunities to adopt innovative technologies.

The incumbent will report to the VP, Sales Enablement, SPT GCS

Minimum Qualifications:

- 10+ years of Database Architecture & Administration experience in a professional environment and/or comparable experience with at least 7+ years in leading a team is preferred

- Bachelor's or master's Degree in computer science, computer engineering, Computer Science, Statistics and AI.

- Hands-on experience handling database administration activities including capacity planning, schema design & implementation, backup and recovery, testing, performance tuning, troubleshooting etc database development lifecycle activities for relational databases like PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQLServer

- Good to have experience in Automation using Python

- Practical experience with Data Architecture to translate business data requirements into data models (Conceptual, Logical, Physical) and using data modeling tools.

- Extensive experience in Linux based DB performance monitoring by using system tools, security setup, troubleshooting and performance tuning as necessary to ensure optimum performance

- Experience in one of the public cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, and Azure preferred.

- Demonstrated experience in learning new Database technologies in a short time span.

- Big data platform (Hadoop, SPARK, NoSQL DB, RDBMS)

- Cloud Products & Services like Google Cloud

- Programming: SQL, SAS, Python/R, Unix scripting, Excel/VBA

- Visualization: Tableau, Power BI, Power Automate, Splunk
