About the Hiring Unit: Finance Operations Accounting and Analysis (FOAA)
Amazon.com has extensive financial systems for its businesses across the Globe. The India operation at Bangalore commenced in 2011. Since then it has grown steadily in its size and scope into a dynamic and large team. Apart from handing basic processes such as operational reconciliations and day to day accounting activities, we perform global high end accounting activities such as month end closing of books, processing of regular and complex journal entries, managing moderately complex to high analytical accounting issues, financial reporting etc. Our continued focus is to strengthen our worldwide accounting processes that enable the activities of Amazon.com in areas of Retail and Non-Retail accounting.
Position Description: Finance Manager - Fin Ops Accounting
LOCATION Bangalore, India
SHIFT 2pm to 11am
Summary of Responsibilities
- The successful candidate will lead a team which ensures that accounting processes are run in a controlled environment, meeting and exceeding our customers- expectations.
- The candidate will report into a General Manager.
- This will include managing a team that works with our central accounting, finance operation and Global financial teams to ensure we have a controlled accounting process to do month end accounting and reporting activities in a manner fitting with our "Customer Obsession", - Deliver Results- and - Insist on Highest Standard- philosophy.
- The Finance Manager is responsible for smooth operations of Global accounting team at Bangalore, which includes managing a team doing closing the global books of accounts, posting of journal entries, preparing global general ledger account reconciliations, reporting and having reviews with leadership team.
- The person needs to ensure that the finance processes are operating at the optimum capacity, hire and develop the best resources and partnering with operations and accounting team to achieve the annual operating plan.
- The Accounting team is responsible for preparing, reviewing and reporting on general ledger account and operational reconciliations.
- This individual will be responsible for developing and maintaining key financial and operational metrics, analyzing and reporting monthly variance analysis and providing ad-hoc reporting and analysis.
- This individual will also establish and embed principals of financial controls by measuring the quality of general ledger account reconciliations, creating dashboards and metrics to measure quality of processes and controls.
- This position will also be responsible for hiring, training, and employee development; managing workload and establishing priorities; ensuring existing policies and procedures are followed; managing annual performance targets, growing people and managing operating budget; creating and monitoring appropriate performance metrics.
- This position will also act as an escalation point in resolving errors and complex accounting issues with internal and external business partners.
- The successful candidate should have a strong desire in innovating processes and exceed expectations in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, primarily driving innovation on behalf of our customers.
Responsibilities include:
Accounting and Control:
- Provide support/direction for process or problem resolution.
- Ensure all processes are operating efficiently and effectively.
- Identify and implement process improvements where required.
- Actively participate in strategic initiatives and special projects when assigned or required.
- Ensure appropriate financial policies, procedures, and internal controls are in place, documented, and operating as intended.
- Manage department's response to internal and external audit requirements and will also ensure compliance with Sox requirements for all geographies/activities.
- Manage complex accounting issues and implement process controls.
Leadership and Management:
- Leading and developing a team of circa 20 analysts, staff accountants, team leads including some managers across accounting processes.
- Managing month end activities which include closing of sub ledgers, general ledger account reconciliations, reporting and balance sheet account analysis.
- Grow, develop, and mentor team members: Coach regularly, promote responsibility-taking, communicate expectations with clarity, ensure differences are resolved, make meaning of events for others, share information.
- Guide recruitment, retention, staff training and performance reviews.
- Build relationships: Make and keep commitments, seek opportunities to partner with customers, be optimistic, and anticipate needs.
- Ensure the department is well planned: Define opportunities, communicate vision and goals in a way everyone understands, know what is most important and set priorities, ask for commitment, follow up on progress being made, promote accountability.

- Lead cross functional systems and process improvement initiatives
Knowledge & Skills/ Business Acumen/ Education & Experience :
- CA, CPA or CWA, with 10+ or more years of post-qualification experience in Month end closing of Books of accounts / working on various Sub-ledgers / Accounting Knowledge / Balance sheet Reconciliation & Reporting activities
- Past experience in effectively managing groups of at least 20 analyst, team leads and managers.
- Strong accounting skills.
