The Role -
- To lead a large, cross-region and cross-divisional Category to maximize value for the company overall by developing a Category Procurement and Supplier Management strategy that leverages economies of scale of both Alcon and other Novartis divisions, modifies demand, optimizes processes and captures innovative and efficient Procurement solutions to provide a competitive edge to Alcon; to act as a business partner and change agent to fully understand business needs and ensure buy-in and successful implementation of category solutions.
Basic Functions-
1. Is responsible for developing the optimum global, cross-divisional category strategy to ensure that business clients have timely access to leading edge technologies, products and services to generate value and competitive advantage (i.e. cost efficiency, productivity, responsiveness and flexibility).
2. Creates and implements innovative strategies that deliver genuine breakthroughs in supplier management.
3. Analyzes the expenditure base to identify cost reduction opportunities; builds, documents, and continuously updates/maintains market and product knowledge.
4. Identifies, engages and influences internal clients across organizational and geographic boundaries to ensure alignment of strategies with business objectives and secure senior level sponsorship; exerts influence to enable the implementation of Procurement projects.
5. Manages supplier relationships, negotiates at a senior level and serves as the lead in mediation/problem resolution.
6. Develops benchmarks and baseline cost models for savings capture and, through the global category team, tracks and manages cost efficiency programs.
7. Demonstrates deep expertise related to the identification, implementation and continuous improvement of best practices, systems and processes.
8. Ensures usage of best practice tools and approaches
9. Ensures that category activities are in accordance with the letter and spirit of Novartis’ policies and procedures, fostering highest ethical standards.
10. Participates, and contributes to, and plays a leadership role on the global cross-divisional category team to ensure best-in-class category management and to ensure alignment of all team members around a common set of category goals.
11. Program manages and plays a lead role in contract formation and negotiations with top wholesalers and distributors, ensuring optimum, market-competitive fee structure, inventory levels, and value-added services.
12. To initiate projects with stakeholders working with Wholesalers (initial focus Russia and Australia ) and Distributors (initial focus China ,India & Korea) for renegotiation & contract terms improvement
13. Develop performance measurement tracking framework for distributors ,wholesalers performance at Asia Area level and continuous improvement wherever required .
14. Develops segmentation strategy, to include model and approach for smaller wholesalers.
15. Overall Risk assessment with distributors in small , medium markets in Asia region .
Experience Required -
- Significant leadership experience, solid experience leading and developing teams within a matrix organization and across geographies and cultures.
Education Required -
- Bachelor’s degree required at a minimum, Master’s degree preferred
