Objective Statement :

- Establish and lead research & development initiatives to develop higher lutein, higher xanthophyll marigold hybrids suitable for Indian agro climatic conditions with focus on mutation breeding to develop high active ingredient content, whilst aligning the agro-project strategies with business objectives, resulting in creation of sustainable competitive advantage.

Functional Skills :

II. Knowledge of Plant Breeding , Genetics, Genome Sequencing and Analysis

III. Molecular Marker Development

IV. Knowledge of Nutraceutical and medicinal plant botany and analytical chemistry

V. Knowledge and application of DATA analysis and bioinformatics softwares

Objectives and deliverables of the Role :

- Constant improvement in Marigold Hybrids in terms of Xanthophyll content and flower yield with focus on development of new male and female line with higher Xanthophyll through molecular breeding.

- Development of potential molecular marker linked to higher Xanthophyll in marigold and marker validation along with development of in house screening assays.

- Marigold Crossing -Hybridization, Backcross population and Breeding population development; mutation and gene pyramiding for higher Xanthophyll in parental lines.

- Conceptualize and develop Breeder seed, foundation seed and commercial seed for marigold flower production

- Evaluation of germ-plasm, breeding lines, chemo-typing and morphological characterization in marigold, creating improvement of marigold germ-plasm for new hybrid seed production

- Evaluation of marigold Hybrids through Scientific and commercial trials and development of backcross population for trait linked markers development in marigold and extend Marker Assisted Selection in breeding to other crops in line with companys business interests.

- Responsible for collection and maintenance of germ-plasm for Marigold, Chicory, Rosemary, turmeric and other medicinal plants in view of customers varying & dynamic requirements

- Implement projects from collaborators Kemin Projects handling in Lutein and Zeaxanthin hybrids, Zeaxanthin mutant male line development.

- Evaluation of chicory varieties for higher Inulin content and development of POP in south INDIA and development of Bio pesticides- preparation of formulations and efficacy testing in crop plants.

- Formally appraise teams performance, provide performance feedback, identify training needs, conduct technical training, on the job training etc., and develop talent for key position back up by aligning succession and career development plans for the team
