Safety & Crisis Preparation

Job Purpose :

- Assist team lead in developing and implementing the Group's Safety Management Standards to meet international best practice and to promote safety in the workplace in order to ensure zero harm to employees, contractor and third parties.

Context of the Function :

- The Group's footprint has expanded to 34 countries around the world with differing legislations and stakeholder awareness around sustainability issues. All the Group's manufacturing businesses have a large environmental and social impact with significant reputational risks in the event of any incident, accidents or failure to lead their segment as required by the Chairman's Sustainability Vision for 2017.

- There is a need to define and implement a Group Sustainability governance framework of policies and standards aligned to international standards of sustainability management to help improve business standards and to protect and build the Aditya Birla brand as a progressive, environmentally and socially sensitive corporate institution hence the Group Sustainability Cell was created to lead this change process.

Job challenges :

- Geographical spread and diverse culture of the business; deeper understanding of business processes and complexity of the group to assist in creating a common framework on Safety management at a Group level, provide advice and facilitate Group and businesses on issues related to behavioural safety; process safety; accident prevention and investigation; emergency and crisis planning.

- Developing wide technical knowledge and facilitation skill to gain respect from the different management teams such that businesses will implement the necessary changes to reach the company goal of causing zero harm to employees, contractor and third parties.

- Changing behavior of every employee to ensure good safety practices.

Accountability :

- Assist develop safety management; technical standards and guidance notes such that each unit may improve its safety management system to achieve superior performance.

- Work with the individual units and projects to improve their safety management systems to meet global best practice and to reduce risk to as low as reasonably practical.

- Assist to establish, facilitate implementation and monitor progress on Process Safety Management System including HAZOP/What if/What if check list/ studies on the critical hazardous processes within the units operations.

- Coach managers in the implementation of good management practices such that standard technical requirements are met by operations and good judgment is embedded into the management of non routine and emergency/crisis situations.

- Implement standard statistical definitions in reporting to international standards.

- Providing support to major accident investigations

- Bachelor of Science or Engineering

- 8-10 years of experience
