POSITION SUMMARY
- A leading manufacturer of FMCG Products with sales of approx. $15.0 Billion, their Global Consumer SC Procurement optimizes spend of $4.5B across direct materials and external manufacturing.
- Led by a Director (who reports to the Consumer SC CPO), PEX is a small group of highly skilled people providing processes, systems, capabilities and competency enhancing methodologies that enable the Procurement to deliver on its challenging goals & objectives. PEX is being reorganized to a Global COE + Regional Lead structure; where each region will house a Global COE Leader, who will also be the PEX leader of the region. Additionally, he/she will also be part of the Regional CPO’s Leadership Team (PLT).
In its initial design concept effective 1st Jan 2013, PEX will have the following functional COE’s
- Market Driven Cost Management (formerly known as Inflation)
- Risk Management
- Procurement Fundamentals
- Talent & Knowledge
- Strategy & Performance
And the following Enablement COE’s
- Capabilities / Quantum Leap
- Technology
- The COEs are designed to be dynamic, in that COE definition, roles and goals / objectives therein might change as Strategic Priorities for Global Consumer Procurement develop (with the demands of THE FIRM’S’s Consumer Business).
- COE Talent & Knowledge + TBC Regional Lead requires professional competencies and skills around FMCG Business & Industry, and (preferably) procurement processes; awareness of FMCG procurement categories viz Direct Materials and Contract Manufacturing, and a user-level knowledge of IT/Knowledge management platforms. As the role is heavily focused on developing the strategic competency of its procurement staff, the role requires strong sensitivity to people management challenges and development opportunities.
The incumbent is expected to wear two hats:
- Be accountable as the Global COE Talent & Knowledge; and develop (alongside Enterprise Procurement), the key methodologies and tools around Talent Development, including (but not restricted to) – Training & Development, Recruitment Policy, Competency Model maintenance & improvement, On-boarding, Performance Management, Credo Actions & Support, organizational benchmarking etc. Key stakeholders in the Talent part of the COE would be the HR business partners to the PLT and in the regions where appropriate (& supported by other Regional Leads), and the Enterprise PEX Academy .
- In the Knowledge part of the COE: develop & deploy in collaboration with the other COE / Regional leads, and the Tech & Capability COE a robust, sustainable and consistently improvable Global Procurement working platform; collaborating with Knowledge / similar COEs at sector & enterprise level.
- As a Regional Lead – work with other COE Leads to implement, train and deliver outcomes & results generated by the other Global COEs (functional / enablement) within the specific region. The incumbent will also work with regional PLT to “pull” requirements for processes, tools and capabilities that would be addressed by PEX (through the other COEs); and represent PEX on the Regional PLT to ensure mutual connections between regional deliverables and global PEX objectives.
In order to fulfill both assignments above, the incumbent will need to be:
The incumbent will collaborate internally (partners & stakeholders) and externally (business intelligence providers, networks and suppliers), and will have:
- Professional competence and experience (>5 years) in a core operational function (preferably procurement)
- Knowledge of FMCG’s business and supply chain, IT and knowledge management platforms
- Outstanding skills in project or program management, particularly those involving multiple functions
- Strong record of team-work and collaboration in a multinational, multi-stakeholder / matrix organization
- (Preferably) previous experience in having trained, mentored, developed associates
- Currently at M2 or at an M1 level considered “ready now” to be promoted to M2
- In addition to the key responsibilities below, the role is expected to be Consumer Procurement’s representative to the Enterprise PEX Academy faculty / training team. The role will have extremely high visibility to organizational strategy, and will play a leading role in aligning Procurement’s competencies towards this.
- The incumbent will have opportunities to build networks, experience, and knowledge, broad and deep skills within and outside Procurement valuable and applicable in a leadership career with THE FIRM.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES/TASKS
Global COE Activity
- Develop & standardize the critical processes, tools, curricula and programs around development of THE FIRM’S Procurement Competencies and skills; guard, benchmark and develop best practices around the THE FIRM’S Procurement Competency Model, 5 Conversations Methodology, Recruitment, On-boarding, Org performance management, leadership development, Credo actions; Continuously benchmark training curricula to internal & external references, and develop training programs (including relationships with external providers) for THE FIRM’S Procurement.
- In the Knowledge part of the COE: develop & deploy in collaboration with the other COE / Regional leads, and the Tech & Capability COE a robust, sustainable and consistently improvable Global Procurement working platform; collaborating with Knowledge / similar COEs at sector & enterprise level.
Regional Support activities
- Collaborate with other COE Leads to enable regional deployment & adoption of PEX initiatives
Regional Deployment support to – COE’s MD Cost Management, Talent & Knowledge, Strategy
& Performance, and Procurement Fundamentals
- Ensure strong & consistent connections between regional deliverables, and developments
and global PEX objectives; maintaining compliance to PEX’s operating principles and vision
- Support the Performance COE with ensuring the update of Regional Dashboards for publishing
- Manage regional resources to support PEX activities / COE leads
- Ensure deployment through training, user-testing, regional stakeholder alignment
- PLT and organizational support to Regional CPO and PLTs
Travel (~as appropriate)
- 40% of time - 60% of time
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS/INTERFACES:.
PEX COE + Regional Leads will:
- Work in a team of highly skilled resources to support Procurement objectives & Business imperatives; and when appropriate engage specialized external resources towards these purposes.
- Represent THE FIRM’S / PEX with internal and external companies & partners, maintaining the strictest standards of ethics, confidentiality, and THE FIRM’S standards of compliance
- Interface and negotiate with senior management internally, particularly with Regional PLT
- Consult to / advise / partner with regional & senior HR & Development leaders on all aspects of Strategic Procurement; directly driving or influencing capability enhancement of the function
- Drive and/or enable THE FIRM’S strategic procurement competency to best-in-class globally.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- University Degree (Economics/Business/Science/Engineering).
- SME level expertise in Strategic Procurement, proven results leading Strategic Sourcing teams, and good working knowledge of overall operations in a Consumer oriented (B2C) business.
- Experience working in an international, cross-functional and multiple stake-holder environment.
- Experience working in the area of FMCG and/or OTC is very desirable.
- Proven leadership and collaborative skills.
