Role Purpose (overall high level summary of the role) • HSBC Technology and Service (HTS) is a pivotal part of the Group and seamlessly integrates technology platforms and operations with an aim to re-define customer experience and drive down unit cost of production. • To propagate HSBC’s & HTS’s strategy, goals, and objectives with messages that are cascaded to employees in the most effective and efficient manner using the available communication channels. • To work with a team of high-potential individuals (Regional Comms. Teams across HTS locations) that work to build, enhance, and sustain the image of HSBC internally and continuously reinforce the Best Place to Bank and Best Place to Work messages. • Responsible for planning and executing all central HTS communication initiatives (campaigns and events) • To develop and maintain a best in class intranet for HTS, and responsible for HTS-wide campaigns and events, ensuring alignment with strategy and alignment with brand and design guidelines maintained across HSBC • Develop an ensure adherence to guidelines and processes for smooth execution of communication initiatives across HTS Principal Accountabilities: Key Activities and Decision Making Areas Typical KPIs and Targets Impact on the Business • To perpetuate corporate messages across regions, employee target groups. • To help impact improved employee engagement and thereby reduce attrition with reinforced Best Place to Work messages. • To develop & provide direction for the HTS Global intranet • Raise awareness and understanding of significant developments in the HTS world Showcase HSBC Technology and Services as the Best Place to Work and the Best Place to Bank with internal and external stakeholders. • Create and execute an annual calendar of initiatives for HTS • Responsible for planning and executing all central HTS communication initiatives (campaigns and events) • Working with the content team to deliver content for all business projects, working with the creative team to ensure timely delivery of the collaterals. working with Regional HTS Comms for effective execution of the communication plan. • Drive and execute the HTS Intranet strategy • Lead the migration of various HTS subsites into the HTS Intranet • Develop and maintain the content on the HTS intranet, ensure it is always up to date, fresh and relevant. • Support in ensuring delivery of cost efficiencies with the management of the migrations, demise of redundant sites and centralising of design services • Support relevant communication campaigns through the intranet • Improvement in visits to Global HTS site • Support in developing key corporate messages and presentations for HTS • Support in ensuring consistent brand experience across HTS • Responsible to track and measure results vs. targets. • Support in development of channel strategy • Responsible for optimum use of communication channels • Supervise the quality of communication for all HTS Communication initiatives • Drive Communication initiatives across boundaries and levels.
Customers / Stakeholders • To ensure that the highest standards of the Brand are upheld in all communications. • To maintain and enhance image of HSBC through innovative communications and campaign strategies that uphold the highest standards of the Brand. • Lead the migration of the regional and business HTS intranets on the Global HTS site • Act as an intranet and communication consultant on projects • Monitor industry developments and ensure the HTS adopts the latest tools, trends and technology in channels, design, functionality and content.
• Plan and execute communication initiatives to support business plans • Execute an annual calendar of activities. • Migrate all HTS regional and Business intranets on the HTS global site • Lead the monthly publication of Global HTS webtrend report, a email newsletter which acts as a portal to key metrics, intranet stories and campaigns • Obtain feedback from employees on the various programmes. Monitor, track, and record customer responses. • Ensure that there is 100% adherence to the Brand guidelines. • Support in developing key corporate messages and presentations for HTS • Relationship manager for key HTS Senior management • Output rollout to be consistent with established standards, timelines, and requirements. Leadership & Teamwork • To be an active member of the HTS Communications Team, contributing to the realization of HTS’s strategy, goals, and objectives. • To work effectively with the Regional Comms. Teams across locations and ensure effective delivery / implementation of planned initiatives, completing deliverables. • To role model the leadership and people management culture of HSBC and effectively lead a team across boundaries. • To identify areas for personal and professional development of self and contribute to a high-performance organisational culture. • Share skills and knowledge amongst team members to enhance overall team capabilities. • Supervise a team of developers and ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of requirements • Create a partnership and facilitate teamwork. • Be seen as a role model and pioneer of the new HSBC culture by leaders, subordinates, and peers. • Identify and seek opportunities for personal and professional development (e.g. training, seminars, etc.). • Monitor industry developments and ensure the HTS adopts the latest tools, trends and technology in channels, design, functionality and content.
Operational Effectiveness & Control • To manage the campaign / activity calendar and leverage the full array of communication solutions. • To apply sensible cost management on budgets. • To ensure provision of appropriate MI and measurement mechanisms to inform future business strategy. • Monitor, track and report on all communication initiatives initiated by the central HTS communication team • Develop and set standards for all microsites and intranets within HTS • Perform regular audits to ensure message and delivery consistency across regions. • Develop templates, guidelines / process flows for audit of communication campaign across all regions • Develop and ensure adherence to guidelines and processes for smooth execution of communication initiatives across HTS • Establish effective measurement criteria and process/es to assess current and future internal communication initiatives. • Enforce proper use of processes / procedures. • Communicate and implement service level agreements with customers. • Ensure adherence to Brand guidelines. • Produce monthly MI on intranet visits and hits, and analyse in a 1-page report to Head of Communications, to provide insight for future intranet development and proof of value • Demonstrate cost-effective use of communications budget on intranet investments Major Challenges (The challenges inherent in the role that require a continual test of the role holder’s abilities)
• Responsible for implementing initiatives that deliver Best Place to Bank and Best Place to Work initiatives, working with a diverse stakeholder across locations. • Ability to manage aggressive timelines in a dynamic environment. • Manages the delivery of messages collaborating with Regional Comms. Teams, managed remotely from one location. • Compete with the different message / delivery priorities for audience interest, participation, and engagement. Role Context (The environment and operating conditions of the role including the extent of guidance and authority) • Member of the HTS Central Communications Team. • Actively contributes to the creation of plans but focuses on the execution and implementation to deliver key messages and enhance the Brand experience across audience groups. • Responsible for working with the Regional Comms. Teams in implementing the calendar using the plethora of communication channels available. • Responsible for upholding the Brand identity in all employee communication efforts. Management of Risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements) • Complies with Corporate Communications risk policies and standards and ensures initiatives are in accordance with Group Risk standards and policy. Observance of Internal Controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements) • Ensures adherence to the Group policies. • Ensures strict adherence to the Brand Guidelines, by regular checks, continuous monitoring, and ongoing education on the proper use. • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators. • Complies with the HR Functional Instruction Manual (FIM) requirements ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and control standards. Role Dimensions (e.g. balance sheet size, lending/expenditure limits, size/volume of transactions, budget. in USD’000) • Responsible for the rollout of corporate and functional initiatives (average of 1 big ticket item per month). Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a Communications role, preferably with a global brand of over 50,000 employees Degree in Communication Arts, Marketing, Journalism, and the like Post-graduate degree in Management, Communications Experience in leading an Internal Communications team with a minimum of 4 members Excellent communication skills, both oral and written Excellent presentation skills and proper use of influencing techniques Excellent judgment and good decision-making ability in complex ambiguous situations Strong leadership and management skills Ability to work in a highly complex matrix environment with exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills
