The VMware Compensation Team develops and maintains a variety of global compensation programs and tools that, when combined, create a flexible and scalable system that supports the hiring of top talent while encouraging and rewarding high standards and strong performance.
Reporting to the Director, Global Compensation, your primary responsibility as the Sr. Manager, Compensation and Benefits – APAC is to deliver the full spectrum of compensation and benefits services directly to our employees in the region, most notably in Australia, New Zealand, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and China. You will have management responsibility and support of two staff compensation and benefits members in the region. Partnering with the regional Human Resources team and managers, you will develop an understanding of the business strategy, local trends and regulatory considerations, and key drivers to appropriately link our compensation and benefits programs to our business objectives.
In addition, in partnership with your corporate compensation and benefits colleagues, you will assist with the roll-out and administration of VMware's global pay and benefits programs in region. An ideal candidate for this role must have a strong understanding of local compensation and benefits practices in the region, strong negotiating skills, excellent analytical skills, and experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Provides consultation to local HR Business Partners and managers at all levels in region regarding salary administration, benefits, and stock and incentive programs • Identifies needs and recommends solutions for specific compensation and benefits issues that affect the assigned organizations • Acts as a resource to client organizations by providing advice and counsel on compensation and benefits programs and practices in support of the objectives and operation of the business • Interprets and ensures policies and practices are fairly and consistently applied • Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with local HR Business Partners and managers at all levels through accessibility and high visibility to ensure ongoing personal effectiveness • Ensures compensation and benefits programs are externally competitive and internally equitable • Heavily involved in major initiatives such as annual salary review, M&A compensation activities, compensation work related to local geographical expansion, or re-organizations • Audits jobs for content and prepare job descriptions and relevant compensation information • Participates in international compensation surveys to collect and analyze competitive salary and equity information • Formulates recommendations regarding development of company salary structure, job revisions, organizational structures, etc • Reviews existing and proposed statutory requirements governing compensation administration and recommends appropriate course of action • Addresses benefit gaps and trends specific to the country, conducts analysis, as needed, and makes recommendations • Develops a good understanding of multinational pools and VMware's existing arrangements • Implements and maintains a global benefits database • Assists with the diligence and integration of benefits programs for mergers and acquisitions • Partners with local HR to design and deliver global benefits communications, as needed • Partners with corporate team to complete global benefits surveys Required Experience/Skills • Bachelor's degree is required; HR, finance, business administration or related field preferred • 6-8+ years of progressive experience in compensation with general knowledge of HR practices • Expert knowledge of compensation & benefits best practice for APAC • Experience working within a MNC/Global environment or US based head office • Strong relationship management, influencing and negotiation skills • Excellent communication skills • Excellent customer service skills • Knowledge of current employment legislation in region and `Employer of Choice' practices • Must be a self-starter who can work independently as well as a member of a team • Demonstrated project management skills, and the ability to partner and consult with all levels of management • Proven experience in creating and maintaining successful compensation and benefits programs • Well-developed analytical skills, and the ability to exercise good judgment • Able to present data and recommendations in an organized and logical manner to all levels of an organization • Experience with mergers and acquisitions a plus • Experience in a fast-paced, high-tech environment and adept at responding to changing priorities • Strong quantitative skills with a deep knowledge of data analytics • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel; proficient in PowerPoint and Word • Experience using Oracle HRIS or other major HR systems • Experience using Microsoft SharePoint or other major collaborative tool • Must have in-depth experience with major surveys such as Radford, IPAS, etc. on a global basis
